Starting nursery or kindergarten is a big step in the life of a child and their family. A new environment, new people, and a different daily routine represent an important experience through which a child gradually develops security, trust, and independence.

At “Naša Vila,” we view this transition as a process where the child gets to know the space, the educators, and their peers, builds a sense of belonging, and discovers that nursery and kindergarten are places where they can play, explore, learn, and be happy.

Every child is unique and reacts differently to changes. Some children need more time to adjust, while others need less.

That is why we respect each child’s individual pace, providing them with patience, gentleness, and support. We do not compare children or rush the adjustment process.

Preparation begins with conversation and building a positive picture of nursery or kindergarten. It is important to explain to the child in simple terms what the day looks like, who will bring them, and when the parent will come to pick them up.

During the first few days, goodbyes should be brief, gentle, and reassuring. Always say goodbye to your child and remain consistent in your agreements. After their stay, offer them extra closeness, attention, and quality time.

During transition, a child may be more sensitive or withdrawn, seek closeness more often, or experience changes in their eating and sleeping habits. These are natural reactions to a major change and a sign that they need additional reassurance and support.

A successful transition is built on a partnership between parents and educators. Open communication, trust, and mutual understanding help the child feel safe and accepted.

Our goal is not just for the child to get used to nursery or kindergarten, but to experience it as a place where they truly belong—a place of play, friendship, exploration, and joyful growing up.
